| THE PORTLANDTYPE.CO STORY Building on over 20 years of experience branding, created custom typography and type design Plazmfonts, Plazmtype Design is now the Portland Type Company. Pete McCracken started building brands and collecting type in the late 80s, he founded Plazmfonts foundry to fill a niche and satisfy a need to build unique solutions for experimenting with type in collaboration with Plazm magazine. As the foundry outgrew the confines of the zine pages, Plazmfonts started winning projects to build custom type families for Nike, Starbucks, Adidas, Target, MTV, and Dr. Martens. Most recently completing a three weight type family for Electronic Arts hit game SPORE, in collaboration with Cinco Design and Veronika Burian. In the early days, the foundry and typefaces that became the Plazmfonts type catalog dictated the creative look of Plazm magazine and influenced the many designers that worked on the pub. In 2007, building on the accomplishments as Creative Director and Lead Designer on all the brand and typeface projects at Plazm, Pete launched the foundry as an independent studio to build better brand identities and custom typefaces for a diversity of clients and projects. |
